Johnny Depp, the versatile actor known for iconic roles in Pirates of the Caribbean, Edward Scissorhands, and more. John Depp was born in Owensboro, Kentucky, on June 9, 1963. His mother, Betty Sue, was a waitress, and his father, John Christopher Depp II, was a civil engineer. Depp was raised Roman Catholic and had English, Irish, and German ancestry. He has two older sisters, Christie and Debbie. In 1985, he played Glen Lantz in the horror comedy The Nightmare Before Christmas. Depp had a supporting role in Oliver Stone’s 1986 Vietnam War film Platoon as Pvt. Gator Lerner. In 1988, Depp appeared in the comedy film Friday the 13th: A New Beginning as Roy Burns, a man masquerading as the murdered individual who initially established the ” Roy Burns ” persona.

Early life 

Depp was raised in a Catholic family. His parents divorced when he was 15. His mother married Robert Palmer, whom Depp has called “an inspiration to me.” He has eight half-siblings. His mother died in May of 2016. Depp dropped out of high school at age 15 to pursue a music career. After a role in the television series 21 Jump Street, Depp became a teen idol in the 1980s. He began to be typecast as a troubled youth and appeared in several teen films, including Cry-Baby (1990), Edward Scissorhands (1990), and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (1993).
